Winters Sunrise

after the stars have gone to bed
and the moon has left the old homestead
the first crack of dawn, alights the land
and the early birds begin to chant
and sing of winters homecoming
brighter than the summer sun
with naked branches, their shadows cast
like a mirror of time, so vast
the motion picture, stilled for a frame
a time of remembering
warmer days, and dust clouds of stars
and how they would enrich our hearts
yet there's something enchanting,
about romancing the cool morning air
a breeze of life, to let you know
we are still here
to sit by the fire,
and sing along, with the birds
of good winter cheer
